Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that the comprehensive partnership between Beijing and Moscow has become a global benchmark for interstate cooperation. Xi stressed that the bilateral relationship has withstood the challenges of shifting international dynamics and now stands as a model of lasting neighborly ties, enduring friendship and mutually beneficial collaboration.
For his part, Putin highlighted the strategic nature of these historic ties, adding that “they are at an unprecedented level.”
The exchange between the two world leaders comes as part of the schedule for Putin’s official visit to China’s capital, which runs from August 31 to September 3.
Earlier, the Russian president took part in the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in the city of Tianjin, where discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation and addressing pressing international issues. He also joined a trilateral meeting with Xi Jinping and Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.
Putin’s trip will conclude on September 3, when he will serve as the guest of honor at commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of victory over militarist Japan and the end of World War II.
According to the Russian leader, the decision to celebrate the anniversary of the victory both in Moscow and in Beijing “has a special significance.” “It is a tribute to the heroism of our peoples, the peoples of Russia and China, during the Second World War, a confirmation of the key role of our countries in the victory in the European and Asian theaters of operations, and proof of our shared readiness to defend historical truth and justice.
